The ongoing 2023 Bund Art Festival presents art lovers in the city with a variety of programs at the Bund Finance Center and Yuyuan Garden Malls in Huangpu District.
Running till the end of May, the festival features an exhibition of public art installations, fashionable bazaars, art lectures and workshops.
Expats take photos with an art installation by Chinese contemporary artist Leng Shu at the Bund Finance Center.
In addition to the BFC, the 2023 Bund Art Festival is also set to the backdrop of the Yuyuan Garden Malls.
The video installation "The Revelation" is by actress and artist Tan Zhuo.
Art exhibition and lecture
The festival's art ambassadors include Wang Jinyuan, famous anchorwoman and chairwoman of the Fosun Foundation; actress and artist Tan Zhuo; cartoonist TANGO; and scholar Shen Qilan.
At a lecture on the diversity of art, they will share their art experiences in different fields.
In the past years, actress Tan has never stopped her exploration in avant-garde art. This time, she brings a video installation "The Revelation" to the festival. The installation reflects her thoughts on new technology and the metaverse. It will be displayed on the former site of the Laoqingyun jewellery shop on the time-honored Fangbang Road M.

Fangbang Road M. has been developed into a cat-themed street with cartoonist TANGO's artistic cat images on its walls.

In the public areas, contemporary artists Leng Shu, Zhao Bandi and Zhou Yilun will exhibit their visually stunning sculptures and art installations which are inspired by traditional Chinese culture, pandas and new fashion.

Art-themed bazaars
On weekends through May 28, the weekend market on Fengjing Road will offer artistic makeovers. Artworks and products from over 50 fashion brands and art institutions will be showcased.
Talented young artists will be invited to present art performances and drawing and handcraft workshops. The Bund Finance Center has also joined with lifestyle-sharing platform Xiaohongshu to collect photos of 100 cats. On May 13-14, these photos will be displayed while TANGO will also appear at the art bazaar and draw cartoon kitties for visitors.
A contemporary art installation by artist Liu Yi contrasts with the traditional architecture behind.
A blend of Oriental aesthetics and contemporary art
The age-old theater stage Xuanhutai" located on Fangbang Road M., has turned on a new look with colorful and lively decorations by American artist Magda Sayeg.
Artworks by young artists are displayed by multimedia means at the urban spaces of old traditional architecture across Yuyuan Garden Malls. Elements and techniques of China's intangible cultural heritage such as calligraphy, painting and handcrafts are incorporated into the artworks. They will have an innovative and artistic expression of the charm of the city.
Additionally, cultural parades and art performances will also be organized during the festival.
